Според Х. Хаусиг и С. Клиашторни съставната дума „род на Ашин“ може да се интерпретира семантично и фонетично безпогрешно като тохарското Aāśna: ashina <āşşeiņa < āşşena със значение "тъмно„тъмно синьо"синьо“.<ref>Haussig Н.W.
