== Биография ==
Роден е на [[7 април]] [[1977]] г. През [[2001]] г. завършва [[Биологически факултет (Софийски университет)|Биологическия факултет]] на [[Софийския университет]]. Работи като херпетолог в [[Национален природонаучен музей|Националния природонаучен музей]] в София<ref name="нпм"/> и в [[Институт по биоразнообразие и екосистемни изследвания|Института по биоразнообразие и екосистемни изследвания]] при [[Българска академия на науките]]. Научните му интереси са в областта на систематиката, биологията и разпространението на четирите семейства гущери от българската херпетофауна ([[Lacertidae]], [[Scincidae]], [[Anguidae]], [[Gekkonidae]]), както и на останалите представители от херпетофауната в [[България]]. Занимава се с произхода и формирането на съвременната българска и балканска херпетофауна, експерименталната междувидова и вътревидова хибридизация при близко родствени видове, морфологични изменения свързани с условията на средата при различните видове земноводни и влечуги.<ref name="нпм"/> През сравнително кратката си, но изключително интензивна научна дейност, Н. Цанков изведе българската херпетология от застоя, в който беше изпаднала след изследванията на Владимир Бешков.
