English: Turkish girls celebrating their liberation from a harem, thanks to Kemal Atatürk, 1931. Note : I tried to add the following comment to Flicker, as suggested below, but could not, for not being signed up to that media. It reads: "The final liberation from harems was back in 1908-1909, after the first Turkish Revolution, during Ottoman times. Therefore these ladies in "1931", 8 years after the establishment of the Turkish Republic, and during the second Turkish Revolution (Atatürk's reforms) are most possibly simply celebrating a National Day of Turkey. I will make my own celebration when you guys get rid of your prejudices about Turkey, a country that elected 18 women to its parliament in 1930s."
